- 2.0 - March 7, 2002
-
- rehauled entire installer, hence the jump from 1.0 to 2.0 - there were many interim versions which were never released publicly. There weren't any bugs in 1.0 after December 31, but I wanted to implement a lot of new features in my installer. :) [There were some issues with the included theme though.]
- includes latest shellfront build and modulepack available at time of release. [You are encouraged to switch to newer builds on your own - you shouldn't wait for a new build to be included in my installer before using it.]
- switched to a smaller, more stable theme. [There should be no warning messages on startup or problems with games now.]
- reduced installer size from 1.80MB to 1.09MB. :)
- ability to install directly into LiteStep directory while running LiteStep.
- shortcuts created for all users on NT/2k/XP only if LiteStep is set as shell for all users, otherwise created for current user only.
- shortcuts are displayed after creation.
- if setting LiteStep as shell for all users on NT/2k/XP, all users see LiteStep in 'Add/Remove Programs' and any user can uninstall. Otherwise only user that installed LiteStep sees LiteStep in 'Add/Remove Programs' and if any other user attempts to run the uninstall executable, LiteStep will not be removed. :)
[After installing on NT/2k/XP while setting LiteStep as shell for the current user or not at all, log in under another profile, run $LiteStepDir$uninstall.exe and you'll see what I mean.]
- added some file overwrite checks: if LSTS is installed and the theme is not, installer asks before overwriting $LiteStepDir$step.rc and $LiteStepDir$popup.rc.
- evars can now be configured at any time after installation via an evar config. utility. [The evar config. utility is installed only if the theme and personal config. files are installed.]
- move freely back and forth between evar configuration pages.
- evar settings are saved and reused.
- evar config. utility sets the $CmdPrompt$ evar to the value of COMSPEC by default.
- no longer any redraw problems on 9x if installer windows are dragged around.
- everything is optional now - pick and choose components as you please. :)
- installer can now be used strictly as a shell config. utility.
- added 'help hotkey' - now hitting CTRL+F1 launches "file://$LiteStepDir$lsdocs\index.html" [I decided to go with CTRL+F1 instead of Win+F1 as a default since not everyone has a 'Win' key. It's easily customized in hotkeys.rc anyway.]
- added confirmation prompt confirming decision to quit if 'Cancel' is pressed during install/uninstall.
- 1.0 - December 31, 2001
-
- Fixed bug in the installer which caused Windows 95 to produce the melodramatic "re-install Windows" message - this has been fixed. The installer remains at v1.0 because the bug was not very significant in my opinion, and there was only one report of it. I don't want to bump the version number up to 1.1 because many might then feel compelled to re-download the installer when only win95 users are affected - and win95 users appear to be a rare breed.
- 1.0 - December 13, 2001
-
- Fixed a bug in the installer which caused X:\LiteStep\personal\evars.rc to be formatted incorrectly. It's a very minor change, so the installer remains at v1.0.
